About Me
After graduating from the University of Cardiff, Wales with a BA and MA in English Literature I worked in the IT department of the University of Aberystwyth for two years facilitating e-learning – writing and implementing courseware, supporting staff and creating an online support network.
I then travelled around Australia solo in a campervan for a year, writing, surfing and exploring. While there, I wrote a textbook for high school students entitled Poetry Analysis – please see the Portfolio page for more.
I am currently employed by Orca Publications who publish CARVE, SurfGirl and ThreeSixty surfing and bodyboarding magazines. I am the Assistant Editor of SurfGirl and Sub-Editor and feature writer for CARVE and ThreeSixty. I write all the competition reports as well as interviewing for and researching features, travel articles, news pieces and promotional material. I also contribute captions, standfirsts, headlines and coverlines. The company is a small one and as such the role is varied and challenging.
I have responsibility for the content of the SurfGirl website which involves maintaining the blog, news area of the site and creating special features and content for the rest of the site. Check it out here: www.orcasurf.co.uk
I also take on freelance and voluntary projects, especially ones of surfing/environmental interest.
To see more details of publications and organisations I have written for, please have a look at the Portfolio page.
On a personal level, I love surfing, yoga (Iyengar), Macs and technology in general, dogs, literature, the environment, herbalism…the list goes on. My personal website and blog is at www.surfergrl.co.uk.
